Mental Health America founded Mental Health Awareness Month in 1949 and has led the effort every May to promote mental wellness nationwide. Throughout this May, the therapists at Present Awakenings will share ways they have more good mental health days.

Lili Davis shares how they help themself have More Good Days:

"This year, when looking at my mental health I noted that my previous engagement was focused more on socializing, getting out of the house, and connecting with others. I made the choice to shift my priority to my relationship with myself and see what came from connecting with myself the way I try to connect with others. I have a strong belief in the power of community and vulnerability as a method for breaking patterns, changing perspective, and growing but I also recognize that to bring something to my community I have to participate in my inner world.

When pondering these questions and deciding to change the way I communicate with myself I first made a list of activities I know I enjoy and things I am curious to try. From there I made a sort of “self love bucket list” for the year (shout out to Notion for making it look cute and functional). As I write this, I can look back on my list and see some things I’ve accomplished without realizing! My favorite section of my list is the “solo dates” I have planned for the year, such as taking myself on a bike ride by the lake or visiting a new library!

It’s so very chaotic and dysregulating to live in the busy, attention grabbing world where we are pushed and pulled in all directions by our phones, news, expectations of others, etc. I value my mind and body being the home I can come back to when I need to make a big choice or find safety in a turbulent relationship. I am worth getting to know! You are worth getting to know, too!"
